The Maytag Corporation was an independent company until 2006, when the Whirlpool Corporation bought it. Whirlpool still sells certain appliances under the Maytag brand, including dishwashers. Maytag offered the Quiet Series 100 model dishwashers, but the company no longer manufactures this series. If your dishwasher isn't drying, troubleshoot the problem, since you can often fix the issue. This saves you money on service fees.
Normal Operation
Your Maytag Quiet Series 100 dishwasher won't dry your dishes if you select a non-heated dry setting like "Air dry." Use a rinse aid to assist with the drying process, and do not overload your dishwasher. Too many dishes in the unit block air from freely moving around, which prevents dishes from drying. Unload the bottom rack first to prevent water trapped in cups from falling on your bottom dishes. Certain dishes including plastic and nonstick items hardly ever completely dry.
Water Temperature/Drying Fan
Increase your water temperature if it's too cold, which can also affect the drying process. Use water between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Increase the water temperature on your water heater if it's too cold. Test the water temperature by placing a waterproof thermometer underneath water from the kitchen faucet. Run the hot water for about two minutes, and see if the water is warm enough. Check the drying fan, which is located in the main housing of your dishwasher. The fan circulates warm air around your dishes. Clean the fan if dirt is preventing it from turning properly. If any of the fan blades are broken or if the motor is defective, replace the whole fan, since it's difficult to repair.
Thermostat
Your Maytag Quiet Series 100 dishwasher has an internal thermostat that regulates the water and drying temperature. If this thermostat is not working properly, the drying cycle may not start. Test the thermostat by running the dishwasher at the highest temperature. Use the shortest washing cycle available. Open the dishwasher, and see if the water is warm. If it's not, order a new thermostat from a Kenmore parts dealer, since this component is difficult to repair.
Heating Element
The heating element is responsible for drying your dishes. If this element is not working properly, then your dishes won't dry. Disconnect the dishwasher from the power supply, and remove the bottom rack. The heating element runs along the base of your dishwasher. If the heating element is burnt out or cracked, order a new one, since you usually can't repair this part.
