Get Rid Of Sink Odor

Rinse your sink with hot water after each use to prevent odors.

It is not uncommon for a foul odor to come from your sink. Food, liquids and other waste are washed down the drain and sometimes create a bad smell. A smelly sink is usually the result of bacteria growing in the sink drain and on the surface. The odor from the sink will linger and can smell up the entire room.

Instructions

1. Fill a large pot with water. Place the pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil.

2. Pour hot water slowly down the sink drain for 15 seconds. Use pot holders while pouring the water down the drain to avoid burns.

3. Pour 1 tsp. baking soda down the drain hole. Pour more of the hot water down the drain for another 15 seconds.

4. Pour white vinegar into a clean empty spray bottle. Spray the inside of the sink with the vinegar.

5. Wipe out the sink with a soft rag. Wipe well around the drain hole and along the underside of the countertop that is attached to the sink.

6. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain if the sink odor persists. Wait about five seconds then pour 1/2 cup vinegar down the drain.

7. Let the mixture fizz inside of the drain for about 30 minutes. Flush the drain hole with boiling water. If you have a garbage disposal, run the disposal as you flush it with hot water.

8. Sprinkle baking soda into the basin of the sink. Spray the sink basin with vinegar and wipe down the sink with a soft rag. Rinse the sink well with hot water.
