Remove Calcium From Dishwashers

Dishwashers get calcium buildup from constant use over time.

Dishwashers are a lifesaver for the busy homeowner; however, they can collect scaly white film from constant use over time. This film is a result of calcium buildup from the water mixing with the soap. Water with a lot of calcium and other minerals is called "hard water" and often leaves streaks on dishes. Fortunately, it is easy to remove calcium buildup from your dishwasher using a couple of household ingredients.

Instructions

1. Pour some white vinegar into a bowl. Dip a clean rag into the vinegar until moistened.

2. Wipe around the inner and outer surfaces of the dishwasher, making sure to get into all the corners and crevices. Rinse with water and reapply vinegar as needed.

3. Refill the bowl with vinegar until it's approximately 3/4 of the way full. Place the filled bowl into the top rack of the dishwasher, making sure to position it so it won't tip over. Do not add any other dishes to the dishwasher.

4. Spread a cup of baking soda over the bottom half of the dishwasher.

5. Run the dishwasher through the shortest complete cycle, using the hottest temperature setting your machine provides.
