Check A Dishwasher'S Water Valve

The water valve supplies the dishwasher with water.

The dishwasher has a water inlet valve that controls the flow of water into the unit. The water valve releases the water into the unit when the washer goes through certain cycles, such as rinse. If you are not getting enough water into the dishwasher during these cycles you may have an issue with the inlet valve receiving a signal from the dishwasher. Usually, a defective water inlet valve will make a loud pounding sound if it is malfunctioning. Otherwise, you may need to test it.

Instructions

1. Unplug the dishwasher.

2. Remove the lower panel, below the dishwasher door, by removing the two screws that hold it in place.

3. Find the water inlet valve. It is identified by the water hoses connecting to it. One hose leads to the pump, or motor, while the other goes to the center of the dishwasher. Inspect the hoses for leaks. Adjust the clamps with a pair of pliers if they are loose.

4. Mark the wires as to where they go with a piece of tape.

5. Pull the wires from the inlet valve using needle nose pliers. Grab the connectors, not the wires, to remove them form the inlet valve. Clean the connectors, if corroded, with steel wool.

6. Set your digital multitester, a small device used to measure electrical current, available from most hardware stores, to the X1 setting. If the measurement is an infinity sign, the wires are bad and need to be replaced.
