Ge Nautilus Dishwasher Maintenance

The GE Nautilus dishwasher is a built-in model with a control panel on the front of the unit. It features a power scrub wash system with two spray arms, a pre-heating system to warm up water before the main wash cycle, hard food disposer, a deep upper rack and a quiet motor. Maintaining the dishwasher properly can help prevent problems and extend its life.

Water Temperature

While the GE Nautilus dishwasher uses a pre-heating system to warm up water before the main wash cycle begins, the household water temperature must be warm enough to reach desirable washing temperatures. This means that the water entering the dishwasher must be between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit, which can be checked by running hot water into a glass container and inserting a food thermometer.

Loading

Loading the dishwasher properly will help ensure proper cleaning and dishwasher operation. Set cups, saucers and glasses on the top rack. Tilt items down facing the spray arm and allow a space between each item. If items are small, make sure they are secure to prevent them from falling down and obstructing the spray arm or the heating element. The lower rack should be loaded with larger items, such as pots, pans, trays and plates. Larger items should be set around the outer edges, facing in and down. Make sure items are not obstructing the movement of the upper spray arm.

Detergent

It is important to use automatic dishwasher detergent in the GE Nautilus dishwasher. Non-dishwasher detergent may foam excessively, filling the tub with soap and creating a leak. GE recommends using Cascade-brand automatic dishwasher powder, liquid or tablets. When adding detergent to the dishwasher, only fill to the "Max" line on the detergent dispenser. Turn the dishwasher dial to "Off" before adding detergent; otherwise, the detergent cup will not latch closed.

Rinse Aid

GE recommends using a rinse aid detergent for all wash loads to help remove spots from dishes and prevent a filmy substance from building up on dishes and inside the dishwasher. GE recommends using "Jet Dry" or "Cascade Crystal Clear" rinse aid detergent. Fill the rinse aid dispenser up to the bottom of the lip in the dispenser. Close the cap firmly and wipe up any spills as rinse aid spills can foam excessively and create a leak.
