Install Dishwashers And Granite Counters

You must anchor the dishwasher to wood attached to the counter.

You must secure your dishwasher to the counter by driving screws through the dishwasher's metal mounting brackets, which are at the top front of the dishwasher. With granite counters, you cannot drive screws through the dishwasher's mounting brackets and into the counter as you would with a laminate counter. Instead, you must attach a wood strip under the granite counter and anchor the dishwasher to the wood strip.

Instructions

1. Lay a tarp on the kitchen floor, and then tip the dishwasher onto its front on the tarp. Connect the water line to the dishwasher's inlet hole, either by tightening the compression nut on the supply pipe or by tightening the screw on the hose clamp for a flexible hose supply line.

2. Tip the dishwasher back up onto its base. Feed the dishwasher's drain line through the hole in the cabinet and to the fitting on the sink's drainpipe. Tighten the hose clamp on the drain line against the fitting on the sink's drainpipe using a screwdriver.

3. Feed the electrical wiring in the wall through the opening in the dishwasher's junction box. Twist the like-colored wires together and then thread wire nuts onto the twisted wire connections. Tighten the plate that sits over the opening in the electrical box using a screwdriver, keeping the wires firmly in place. Place the cover on the electrical box and thread the retaining screws into the box.

4. Measure the width of the dishwasher opening under the granite counter. Cut a strip of wood the length of the opening's width, spread silicone caulk on the ends and one side of the wood, and then press the wood strip against the granite counter at the front of the dishwasher opening.

5. Slide the dishwasher into the opening under the granite counter. Twist the feet on the front of the dishwasher, raising the dishwasher's height until its mounting brackets touch the wood strip you attached to the underside of the granite counter. Open the dishwasher's front door and place a level against the top of the dishwasher's inside, and then adjust the feet until the dishwasher sits level.

6. Drive wood screws through the holes in the dishwasher's mounting brackets and into the wood strip you installed. Close the dishwasher's door and run it to check for leaks.
