UNIX is a popular operating system for servers because of its low overhead powerful user interface.
Solaris 8 is a UNIX-based operating system offered by Sun Microsystems. It command line-based, but subsequent versions include GUI (Graphical User Interface) options like CDE (Common Desktop Environment). The beep a user hears when executing commands is a holdover from the days before GUI technology when computer interfaces were all command line text. It was used to signify that a command has been entered, with subsequent beep codes for the status of that command.
Instructions
1. Type "xset b off" at the command prompt. If this doesn't turn off the beep, try one of the steps below, which are accepted alternatives to solve the same problem.
2. Type "/usr/openwin/bin/" as a second option.
3. Type "/usr/openwin/bin/xset -b" if neither of the previous steps work.
4. Type "/usr/openwin/bin/xset b 0" as a final option to turn off the beep.
