Regularly cleaning the ice maker in your refrigerator is important for sanitation reasons. Mold, mildew and bacteria can form if the ice maker is not cleaned regularly. Cleaning the ice maker also helps the ice to taste better because ice tends to soak up smells from the freezer.
Instructions
Prepare the Ice Maker For Cleaning
1. Lift the power bar located above the ice maker storage tray.
2. Unplug the refrigerator.
3. Allow the refrigerator and freezer to defrost. This will melt any large blocks of ice that have accumulated in the ice maker.
Clean the Ice Machine
4. Remove the ice machine storage tray.
5. Dump any water in the ice machine storage tray.
6. Wash the ice machine storage tray using warm, soapy water. Rinse and allow to dry completely.
7. Sanitize the lines of the ice maker. Consult your manufacturer's directions for steps to do this, because it's not available on all models.
Reassemble the Ice Maker
8. Replace the ice machine storage tray.
9. Plug the refrigerator into the outlet to restore power.
10. Lower the internal power bar located just above the ice machine storage tray. This allows the ice machine to make new ice.
