The drain valve for a dishwasher may need to be checked periodically.
Dishwashers that are installed in a kitchen will drain excess water through a discharge hose that is connected to a drain valve. When water does not drain properly, the result will be standing water that remains in the dishwasher. If your dishwasher is not draining properly, you will need to check the valve for the discharge hose. To begin, you must first find the location of the pump on the dishwasher.
Instructions
1. Turn off the power to the dishwasher. This can be done by unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet or turning off the circuit or breaker on your home's circuit panel.
2. Find and remove the screws that are used to secure the lower kick plate that is located under the door.
3. Remove the kick plate panel from the dishwasher and set it aside.
4. Look under the dishwasher and find the drain hose. The drain hose is located under the lower spray arm and is connected to the pump. The hose that runs from the pump to the sink drain is the drain hose.
5. Place a pan under the drain valve to catch any water that may come out of the hose.
6. Remove the clamp that is used to secure the hose to the drain valve with a pair of pliers. Remove the hose from the drain valve on the pump assembly.
7. Examine the drain valve for any debris that may be blocking the water flow. Remove any debris and replace the drain valve.
