A garbage disposal in your sink can help cut down on landfill waste by grinding your organic waste into small particles that can easily be washed down your kitchen sink drain. Disposals also are made so they can be connected to dishwashers and break up any food matter washed through a dishwasher drain hose. To connect a dishwasher to a disposal, you must first remove the drain plug from the garbage disposal so the drain line can be attached.
Instructions
1. Turn off the power for the garbage disposal where you wish to remove the drain plug. The safest way to do this is by cutting the power for the disposal at the main circuit breaker.
2. Use a flashlight to locate the drain plug you wish to remove. This usually is positioned on the side of the garbage disposal.
3. Press a flat bladed screwdriver against the plug. Tap the end of the screwdriver with a hammer. Continue this process until the plug is removed.
4. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the drain plug stopper from the garbage disposal.
