The Whirlpool model DU1145 dishwasher is an older model dishwasher that Whirlpool no longer sells. You can, however, purchase replacement parts for this dishwasher from online, third-party vendors. You may experience certain troubles with the dishwasher, including leaking issues. Troubleshoot this problem before contacting a service technician, especially if the dishwasher warranty is expired.
Door Leaks
If water is leaking out of the door of your model DU1145 dishwasher, verify that you have not used too much detergent. Only use a maximum of 9 tsp. of detergent in the main wash dispenser and up to 7 tsp. of detergent in the pre-wash detergent dispenser. Over-sudsing causes water and suds to escape from the tub. See if the dishwasher door is completely closed. If not, push in the racks, and clean the gaskets if dirty. Replace the gasket if falling off or torn. Tighten the door latch if it's too loose. Verify that the dishwasher is level. If not, adjust the feet, or level the floor beneath the unit.
Hoses/Water Temperature
You have water inlet and drainage hoses on the rear of the machine. If these connections are too loose, water can leak out of the hoses. Tighten the connections, and verify that the washers inside the hoses are seated properly. Examine the hoses, and see if they are punctured or split. Replace the hoses. Clean out any debris in the hoses and your household drains. Debris causes water to back up, creating leaks. Determine how hot the water coming into the dishwasher is. Run the hot water on the sink for a few minutes, and then place a waterproof thermometer under the water. If it's warmer than 120 degrees Fahrenheit, lower the water temperature on your hot water heater.
Valve/Dishes
The water inlet valve attaches to the inlet hose and to the dishwasher. The tube that runs from valve to the dishwasher can split and leak. Replace the tube. While it is rare, the water inlet valve can get stuck open, causing the dishwasher to overflow. Shut off the household water, and get a new valve. Do not run the dishwasher again until the valve is replaced. Never run your Whirlpool model DU1145 dishwasher without dishes in the lower rack. Without dishes, the spray arm sprays water directly on the door, which can cause leaks. Do not place large pans near the door of the dishwasher. Water can bounce off the pans and move between the door seals.
Main Seal/Dishwasher Cabinet
The main tub seal can dry out after a while. It is located on the base of the tub underneath the rack, spray arm and impellers. If the seal is cracked or brittle, replace it. Examine the pump, and see if any of its components are broken and leaking. Replace the pump. If you see water underneath the dishwasher and the bottom is corroded, you must repair the cabinet. This is often an expensive repair.
