Wash the dishes off ahead cargo them into the dishwasher to brighten the auto's workload and concentrate buildup in the dishwasher drain.

Cleaning Steps

Press the "Cancel/Drain" button on the front of your Kenmore washer while the door is closed. This should drain the machine of any water remaining in the basin. It may take up to two minutes. Open the door and pull the bottom dish rack all the way out.

Remove the drain trap found at the bottom of the dishwasher and empty its contents into a trashcan. You'll likely find bits of plastic and large food particles inside. Rinse the trap out under warm running water and scrub it with a small scrub brush to remove any gunk or residue.

Cleaning the Washer

You should periodically wipe down the inside and outside of your cooled Kenmore machine with a damp cloth or sponge and a paste made from powered detergent and water. Look for buildup near where the door meets the bottom of the dishwasher. Don't use a traditional liquid soap or it might create foam inside the dishwasher.

Help eliminate scale or white streaks on your dishes by running a load with a vinegar mix. Run a soap-free load of dishes without any silverware or metal objects through the wash and rinse cycle. Open the door and put a 2-cup size glass of white vinegar into the bottom rack of the dishwasher. Continue through the wash cycle with the "air-dry" option engaged. Although the acid in the vinegar eats away at grease remaining in the dishwasher, you shouldn't do this often or the acid could eat away at the Kenmore washer.

Tips

If the dishwasher has standing water, check the power and then ensure the washer has not stopped in mid-cycle. Open and close the door, then restart the cycle.

Don't over-fill your dishwasher. Too many dishes in the washer may prevent dishes from adequately drying and may impact the overall drainage of the machine.
