Clean Kitchen Aid Stainless Knives

Kitchen Aid Stainless steel knives (like all brands) are rust resistant if given proper care. Stainless steel kitchen knives should be promptly washed and dried to avoid pitting or corrosion to the metal surface. Stainless steel cutlery should not be soaked overnight or left in a damp dishwasher, and they shouldn't be left dirty either. Food with high salt content, vinegar, fruit juices, or even milk products can damage the finish. Care should be taken with hard water, because it can cause a rainbow discoloration on stainless steel. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

Dishwasher Cleaning

1. Rinse off knives if they have cut acidic foods or cheese and wipe dry if you are not running the dishwasher immediately. Temporarily store dirty knives in a kitchen strainer, out of direct contact with water, until it's time to load the dishwasher.

2. Load Kitchen Aid stainless steel knives into the dishwasher point down to avoid injury.

3. Run dishwasher as normal and use a drying cycle. If you do not have a drying cycle, remove stainless steel knives immediately after the dishwasher is finished and hand dry.

Hand Washing

4. Wash knives by hand using normal dish soap and hot water. Rinse well. Do not use harsh abrasives (like Comet) on stainless steel -- this will damage the surface and allow for future rusting.

5. Completely dry stainless steel knives with a kitchen towel to prevent spots or streaks from forming.

6. Remove any rainbow discoloration or bluish cast with by rubbing with lemon juice.
