Prevent white scum from the dishwasher with white vinegar.
Dishwashers typically get the job done when it comes to keeping dishes clean, but they can sometimes leave behind a white scum on your dishes. This film is especially noticeable on clear items like glassware and glass plates or baking dishes. The scum accumulates as a result of high mineral content in your water supply. By adding an additional cleaning element to the wash cycle, you can quickly break up the minerals before they settle onto the dishes. This not only removes the white scum, but also prevents it from coming back in the future.
Instructions
1. Place all of your dishes into the dishwasher, along with your normal portion of dishwasher detergent.
2. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the bottom of your dishwasher, and turn on the unit. Run a regular wash cycle, and the vinegar will distribute through the dishwasher, removing any present white scum and keeping your dishes streak-free.
3. Use the vinegar each time you run the dishwasher. Not only will it keep dishes clean, but it will also prevent odor and mildew from developing inside the dishwasher unit.
