Cuisinart Ice Cream Machine Instructions

A Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker is a tabletop appliance that takes the work out of making homemade ice cream. Not only can a Cuisinart make ice cream, it can also make sherbets, sorbets, frozen yogurt and frozen drinks. The machine can make any of these in as little as 20 minutes' time. All you have to do is a bit of preparation before you start the process. Cuisinart ice cream machines can be purchased new, or picked up used at flea markets, thrift shops and garage sales. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Putting the Machine Together

The Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker consists of four separate parts. Along with the base that has the on/off switch and the cord, the machine has a freezer bowl, a mixing arm and a lid containing an ingredient spout. When you first open the machine, you should wash the bowl, mixing arm and lid in hot soapy water and rinse. The base should be wiped clean with a damp sponge and never immersed in water.

Freezing the Bowl

The first step to making ice cream or any frozen dessert in your machine is freezing the bowl. This is a simple task: wrap the bowl in a freezer bag or plastic wrap and place the bowl in your freezer. Leave it for six to 24 hours or until frozen solid. To have the bowl ready when the mood hits, store the bowl in your freezer at all times when not in use.

Making Ice Cream

Combine the ingredients called for in your ice cream recipe in a large bowl. Pour into the assembled ice cream maker through the ingredient spout. Turn the machine on and let it work for 20 minutes. For firmer ice cream, place the ice cream in a shallow covered container and freeze for up to two hours.

Simple Vanilla Ice Cream

In a bowl, combine 2 cups cold, heavy cream, 1 cup cold milk, and 3/4 cup of sugar and 1 to 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla. Assemble the ice cream machine, making sure that the freezer bowl is frozen solid. Pour in the cream mixture. Turn the machine on and let it work for 20 to 25 minutes. Soft-serve vanilla ice cream will be ready to eat at the end of the allotted time.

Other Tips

If you do not have a manual for the Cuisinart Ice Cream maker, download a copy from the Internet. See resources below for link. Never wash the freezer bowl in the dishwasher or use any type of abrasives on the bowl. Never use a metal spoon to remove the dessert from the freezer bowl, as that will scratch the bowl. Freeze only the freezer bowl; the mixer arm and lid do not require freezing. Do not store frozen desserts in the freezer bowl; always transfer them to covered containers instead.
