The dish racks in your dishwasher use rollers to glide the dish racks in and out of the unit. The rollers are generally made of nylon and last the life of the dishwasher. However, there are times when rollers just become faulty from use. Replacing rack rollers on a dishwasher is a straight forward process. The most difficult part of replacing the rollers is removing the top dish rack. Roller replacements are available at appliance repair facilities and some home improvement centers.
Instructions
1. Open the dishwasher door and remove the lower dish rack. The lower dish rack simply just rolls out on most dishwashers.
2. Unsnap the end caps on the upper dish rack track end caps. Because of the many varieties of manufacturers, there is no one way to remove the end caps on the end of the upper dish rack tracks. Most all of them unsnap from the end of the track, although you may need a flat-head screwdriver to assist.
3. Pull the upper dish rack out of the dishwasher. Inspect the rollers on both dish racks and the rollers on the inside of the dish washer. Rollers attach in several different ways. Some simply screw on while others snap on over the rack. Lower dish racks usually have combination rollers that snap over the bottom of the rack.
4. Remove the rollers by either unsnapping them from the dish rack or remove the screw securing them with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Take the rollers to an appliance repair facility for replacements.
5. Attach the new rollers by snapping over the dish rack or by securing them with the retaining screws. Slide the dish racks back into the dish washer and reattach the upper track end caps.
