The "Normal" Light Keeps Blinking On My Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

The Kenmore Elite dishwasher has a control panel with wash cycle selections and a series of lights to indicate the cycle progress or mode. The lights on the control panel may also blink if an error has happened to notify users that there is a problem. If the "Normal" light is blinking, this indicates an issue that will require some troubleshooting.

Water

Begin checking into possible trouble areas by making sure that the water supply is on, particularly if the Kenmore dishwasher was recently installed. The water valve should be turned on completely at all times when the dishwasher is connected, and the water hose should be firmly connected and straightened out. This will allow water to enter the unit without obstruction.

Overfill Protection Float

Water may also be obstructed from entering the dishwasher, causing the problem, if the overfill protection float is stuck. This float can be found on the bottom of the dishwasher, and is a little plastic cone that slides up and down when working normally. Tap the top of the float to make sure it is not caught in place, and slide it up and down to make sure it works properly.

Suds

Another possible problem with the dishwasher is too much soap in the tub, which causes drainage problems for the unit. This is something that may occur if the rinse aid detergent has spilled, other types of detergent - not automatic dishwasher detergent - were used in the dishwasher or too much dishwasher detergent has been poured into the dispenser. Too many suds will cause an error to occur with the unit, which can be resolved by adding 1 gallon of water and then running a drain cycle.

Service

Once you've attempted the troubleshooting steps described in Sections 1 through 3, the "Normal" light should stop blinking, and the dishwasher should function as expected. If it does not, contact Kenmore for assistance or advice at 888-536-6673.
