Hotpoint is a brand of appliances sold by GE Appliances, which is a division of the General Electric Company. At publication, Hotpoint only offers kitchen appliances, including refrigerators, microwaves and dishwashers. It used to, however, also offer washing machines. If you own a Hotpoint washing machine, the warranty has probably expired, making it expensive to fix. You can usually fix minor issues, including leaking problems.
Hoses
Fill and drainage hoses are located on the rear of your Hotpoint washing machine. The fill hoses bring water to the tub, and the drainage hose takes it away. If these hoses are not connected properly, they can leak. Tighten the connections. See if the hoses are split or cracked. If so, either patch the hose or get a new one. Verify that the washers fit properly inside the fill hoses. See if the hose, standpipe or household plumbing system is clogged. Clean out these components since they can cause water backups. See if the drain pipe fits snugly into the standpipe.
Levelness
If your Hotpoint washing machine isn't level, water can splash out of the tub and onto the floor. Your washing machine comes with four leveling legs. Tighten the jam nuts if they are loose. See if the weight of the washer is evenly distributed on all four feet. Rock the washer diagonally on both sides. If it moves a little, adjust the feet. If the floor is unstable, fix it or place a 3/4-inch piece of plywood underneath both the washer and the dryer.
Air Gap/Seal
Hotpoint washing machines come with air gap devices to keep water from the tub from going into your home water supply. This device is made of plastic, which can break or warp over time. Examine the device, and replace it if necessary. You usually cannot fix this device. The main tub seal is located near the transmission. This seal prevents the tub's contents from leaking onto the floor. If your Hotpoint washer is leaking all of the time, disconnect the washing machine from the power source, and see if the seal is compromised. Use a crowbar to pry it out, and order a new one from a Hotpoint parts dealer.
Load
If you see water splashing out of your washing machine, the washer is overloaded. Raise the lid, and remove a few items of clothing. Redistribute the load if it's unbalanced, which can also cause leaks. Verify that no clothing or items are preventing the lid from closing properly. Remove these items, and completely close the washer lid.
