Winterize Washers & Dryers In Rvs

In order to ensure that a camper or recreational vehicle remains safe during the cold winter months, it must be properly winterized. This includes caring for the vehicle's tires, water system and washer and dryer. Damage can occur to when water is left stagnant a camper's washer/dryer and its pipes, which can damage the unit and may require it be replaced. It is possible to protect an RV's washer and dryer to ensure that it can be used on several trips the following year.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the water inlet hoses from the unit and drain any standing water into a bucket. Clean out the hoses with a blast of compressed air. Reattach the hoses to the unit.

2. Turn the washer and dryer's power supply to the off position.

3. Pour one half to one gallon of RV anti-freeze directly into the unit's drum. Avoid using regular automotive anti-freeze.

4. Close the door to the unit and place it on the "spin" cycle for two to three minutes. This will run the anti-freeze through the hoses attached to the machine.

5. Turn the machine off and disconnect it from the power supply.

6. Unplug the drain hoses from the unit and empty out any remaining water into a bucket. Reattach the unit's hoses.

7. Wipe up any liquid that remains on the floor or the outside of the unit with a towel. This will ensure that no mold forms during storage.
