Replace Bosch Pump Seals

Bosch is a German manufacturer that is one of the world's largest suppliers of fuel pumps in consumer automobiles. Fuel pumps help manage the injection of fuel into an engine. Faulty pump seals can make it difficult to start the engine. These steps assume you have already removed the fuel pump from the car.

Instructions

1. Use the cotton rag to wipe down the exterior casing of the Bosch engine pump. This allows you to work with the pump more easily, as well as prevent engine dirt and grease from contaminating the inside of the fuel pump.

2. Place the Bosch pump in the vise and carefully turn it to drain out any fuel contained within the pump into an empty container. Discard the old fuel per your local county or state's fuel disposal regulations.

3. Use the pliers to loosen and remove the 12 mm bolt located in the timing access hole found at the top of the pump head.

4. Lift the pump head away from the pump body. Locate the pump seal, found in the middle of the pump body. Carefully use the pliers to remove the seal, being careful not to touch anything else within the pump.

5. Replace the old seal with a new seal. Slide the pump head back over the pump body at a sideways angle to maintain pressure against the seal and prevent it from moving when you lock the pump pieces back together.

6. Check that the bolt slots are aligned and replace the bolts you loosened and removed in Step 3.
