Maytag, the make of Magic Chef refrigerators, recalled a number of units in 2009 because of an electrical failure in the relay which can cause a fire hazard. If you are experiencing difficulties with your Magic Chef refrigerator, you will first want to make sure that your model is not on the Recall List (see References). If your fridge is not on the list and you are just experiencing normal difficulties, try troubleshooting the problems on your own before calling in a professional.
Power
Check to make sure your Magic Chef refrigerator is plugged in correctly. Ensure that you haven't tripped a circuit breaker or blown a fuse. If the fresh food control is set to "Off," turn it on. Remember that if your refrigerator is in the automatic defrost mode, it will take about 25 minutes for that cycle to cease. Your refrigerator also needs to be in a room that is warmer than 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
Temperature
Make sure you haven't set your control settings too warm if your freezer or refrigerator will not cool down. Your owner's manual will have instructions on adjust your temperature control. Also, do not keep the doors open for extended periods of time, as this will cause warm air to get into the unit. Remember that food products made of high sugar content may still be soft when completely frozen.
Moisture
If you find moisture on the cabinet surface between the doors of your unit, do not worry. This is normal if there is high humidity. You will also see moisture in the crisper and on the inside walls during hot and humid weather. Try to open the doors as little as possible and make sure they are always closed properly to minimize moisture. In addition, always wrap your food tightly.
