What Satellites Pick Up On A Directv Phase I 18inch Satellite Dish

The DirectTV Phase I 18-inch dish receives basic satellite programming.

Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) antennas or dishes are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. The shape of the dish determines what portion of the sky the dish is able to "see," in order to receive a signal. The amount of sky that the dish can see determines how many DBS satellites the dish can pick up. DBS satellites are geosynchronous satellites, which stay in a fixed location in the sky.The DirecTV Phase I 18-inch dish, paired with a single Low Noise Block Converter (LNB), is the most basic dish of the eight DirecTV dishes.

DirecTV SAT-A Satellite

DirecTV has a fleet of 10 satellites. The DirecTV 18-inch dish can "see" the entire fleet of DirecTV satellites but is limited by its single LNB Converter, which will receive only one of these 10 satellites, called "SAT-A" This satellite is located in orbital slot 101°. The DirecTV 18-inch dish, paired with a DirecTV receiver, can receive basic DirecTV programming from "SAT-A."

DirecTV Dish Pointer

DirecTV offers an online satellite locator service called "DirecTV Dish Pointer." Satellite availability differs, depending on your location. You can use the "DirecTV Dish Pointer" service to see what's available from your specific location.

Dish Network Satellites

The 18-inch dish has access to the following Dish Network satellites: at the 61.5° (EchoStar III & XII), 110° (EchoStar X & XI) or 119° (EchoStar VII & XIV) orbital slots. You can use the dish with a Dish Network receiver, but you can access only one of the Dish Network satellites. You must be an active Dish Network subscriber, and your satellite/programming availability is based on your subscription.
