The Salary Of A Dietary Aide

The responsibilities of a dietary aide can vary. Most dietary aides are responsible for observing the consumption of a person, and reporting the consumption and the results of the consumption to a dietitian. However, some dietary aides are also responsible for cooking food, cleaning up and washing dishes. There are differences in pay for dietary aides.

New on the Job

A brand-new dietary aide does not typically make a lot of money, regardless of where she works or what her responsibilities are. The median hourly rate for an aide with less than five years of experience in 2009 was $8.76. This is about $18,220 per year.

Experienced Dietary Aides

Even 20 years of experience does not do much to increase pay. The median yearly salary for an aide with 20 or more years of experience is about $25,000 per year.

Top-paying market

Based on survey responses, dietary aides in the Bronx, New York, make about $14.21 per hour, which is nearly $30,000 per year.

Top State

Based on survey results, the median salary for New York dietary aides, which is about $27,000 per year, is about $7,000 more per year than the second-best-paying state, Wisconsin, at around $20,000 per year.

Percent Growth

A first-year employee should expect to see his salary increase by about 45 percent over the next 20 years, although this is less than $8,000 total.
