Removing soap scum takes some scrubbing.
Even though you are constantly running hot water and detergent through your dishwasher, your dishwasher can begin to develop residue. Soap scum develops in your dishwasher when detergent residue mixes with hard water. The minerals in the hard water prevent the water from rinsing the soap residue from the inside of the dishwasher. Remove the soap scum thoroughly as soon as you notice it building up to keep your dishwasher operating properly.
Instructions
1. Mix 1 tbsp. of liquid dish soap with 3 cups of hot water.
2. Remove the racks from the dishwasher and scrub the interior with the soapy water and a sponge or non-abrasive scrubber.
3. Replace the racks in the dishwasher.
4. Place a cupful of white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher.
5. Close the dishwasher and run the cycle. This will remove hard water residue, while the acidic cleaning solution counteracts the alkaline soap residue stain. Run the dishwasher without dishes.
